IMENTI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory is situated at Kathera Location (South Imenti Division) of Meru Central district. Imenti is 8 Kilometres from Nkubu and 23 Km from Meru town. The factory is 229 Km from the capital city; Nairobi .The factory is on relatively high altitude of 2000M above sea level approximately 0.2 C south of Equator along 37.6 East Longitude with a rainfall of 1200-2000 mm per annum. Currently, the factory serves 5189 growers with a potential area of 1251 Hectares of land.
Tea was first planted in the area in 1959. Later on, planting was intensified in the region and this facilitated the construction of Imenti Tea Factory, which was commissioned on 28th April 1971 by the then Minister for Finance and Economical Planning Hon. Mwai Kibaki, EGH.MP. The Factory was that time managed by Eastern Produce Group until the year 1981, when it was taken over by Kenya Tea Development Authority (now Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited). The Factory is now Fair Trade Certified and has embarked on project implementation in various electoral zones.
The Factory hopes to accomplish the following ongoing projects in future: Micro-Hydro Electricity Generation Project, Tree Planting Projects (Mwigiki farm project, Mitunguu farm project, Factory nursery project) and ISO 9001:2000 certification process in progress.
The Factory is involved in Corporate Social Responsibilities which include:
Assisting the needy within the community. During the past Christmas holidays, workers, management and directors contribute money which is used to buy foodstuff and other necessities for the destitute within the catchments. Among those visited are orphans, cripples, the elderly, children homes and Uruku Prison. The factory, has also engaged itself in the improvement of the road network within the factory catchments. This is done using the cess funds to enable the factory transport green leaf from the buying centers to the factory efficiently. The roads are now passable even during the rainy season.

GITHONGO TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory was constructed in1974. It was commissioned on 5th January 1976 to manufacture C.T.C. made black tea with an annual installed processing capacity of 5,500,000 million Kg's green leaf. The first expansion was done in 1986 to 1987 for an extra capacity of 4,500,000 Kg's green leaf. Due to the improved green leaf production, second expansion was done in 1996 to 1997 for an additional 5,000,000 Kg's green leaf capacity giving a total of 15 million kilograms of green leaf processing capacity per year. Plans are underway to have the capacity enhanced through modernization to cater for the rising production costs and efficiency need.
Githongo Tea Factory co. Ltd. is situated in Meru Central District of Eastern province, 11kms off the Embu- Meru highway, west of Meru town, the home town of Meru National Park and approximately 261 Km from Nairobi, on the windward, eastern slopes of Mt Kenya at an altitude of 1971m above sea level. The highest peak on the mountain is 5109 m above sea level (Batian Peak). The exact position of the factory is 35o 37’ East of Greenwich Meridian and 0o 01’ North of Equator. The tea factory falls within KTDA administrative Region IV.
Githongo Tea Factory Co. Limited catchment borders the natural Mount Kenya Forest. This has an effect of making the ambient temperatures very cool and conducive for tea growing. It also enhances the flavour in tea quality due to slow shoot growth. Githongo tea is grown between 1600 - 2000 m above sea level which means all of it is above the brown line which is at 1500 m above sea level.
Githongo tea has coppery bright character, a special flavor and cup color which are equivalent to no other factory, all of which buyers are addicted to.
The production levels of green leaf have risen from a meager 1,098,707 Kg's (269248 kgs made tea) in 1976 to a high of 16,676,483 Kg's Greenleaf (465,248 made tea) in 1998/1999.
Due to construction of other tea processing factories in the neighborhood localities, the crop has since gone down to lower levels of 9,713,759 Kg's Greenleaf (2,482,534 Kg's made tea) in the year 2006/2007.

IGEMBE TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory was constructed in 2006 and ended in December 2008.Trial runs began in Dec 2008 to June 2009. The factory started formally in July 2009 and officially commissioned to manufacture Black C.T.C. teas by His Excellency Mwai Kibaki, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the republic of Kenya, on 17th April 2010. Igembe Tea Factory Company limited is a satellite factory of Kiegoi Tea Factory Company limited. The plan to construct Igembe factory was made after projections showed a huge increase in production beyond the installed capacity of the mother factory, Kiegoi.
The Factory is a one line Factory with an annual installed capacity of 5 million Kg’s of green leaf. It serves around 3,600 growers of the greater Akachu Electoral zone of Kiegoi Tea Factory, which covers 898 hectare consisting of 7million bushes.
Igembe Tea Factory is located in Athi Market, off Meru-Mikinduri, Maua road, within the undulating slopes of Nyambene hills. At an altitude of about 1650 MASL, the factory has a panoramic view of the picturesque Tharaka plains. It is 20 Kilometers from Maua Town and some 350 kilometers North of Nairobi.
The area is served with a good network of roads, sufficient rainfall and enjoys a rich mix of agriculture and the popular Miraa culture. Itumbe Tea Factory is situated in Kirindine location, Akachu division, Igembe South District, Meru County.

KIEGOI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory was commissioned in 1992. It serves approximately 11,520 growers with a potential area covering 1784.3 hectares of land. The factory situated near Nyambene hills in Eastern Province, Meru North District,Igembe Division, Kanthiari location and in Gitumi sub- location. The factory is accessed through Nairobi - Maua Road which is 330 km from Nairobi and Maua – Kiegoi (5Km) feeder Road.
The Geographical features near the factory include Nyambene Hills, Kibilaku ranges, Ura River and Mboone stream. The factory lies is an environment that is on a relatively high altitude of 1675M above sea level and approximately Latitude 0.2N and longitude 37.9E, with a rainfall of 800mm per annum. Temperature: Max 25, Min. 11 humidity 85%. The red volcanic enhance tea production in the area.
The factory has over the years attained the following achievements:

MICHIMIKURU TEA COMPANY LIMITED
The Factory was constructed in 1963 by Eastern Produce (Kenya). The factory serves approximately 9,849 growers, with a potential 1,749 Hectares of land. The factory is situated at Nyambene Hills (Tigania District). The factory is 321 Km from Nairobi.
It lies is an environment that is on a relatively high altitude of 1736m above sea level and approximately Latitude 0.3 Degrees and Longitude 38 Degrees, with a high rainfall of 2379 mm per annum. Moderate temperatures of about 17.28 degrees. The rich acidic loamy soil enhances tea production in the area.
It is surrounded by unique geographical features: Nyambene Hills, Rivers: Thangatha, Kauwa, Mwithu, Thanantu and Liutu
The Factory has several unique aspects: Fish ponds (4), Dispensary, Silviapiculture project, Arboretum, Guest house, Company estate 200 acres, and Amugaa Wood fuel farm 200 acres. The factory is Fair Trade Certified and is currently working towards ISO 9001:2000, HACCP and Traceability certification.

GACHEGE TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Gachege Tea Factory was constructed in 2001 and ended in 2003. It formerly started its operations in May 2003 and commissioned to manufacture four different clones of Tea which include: 6/8 ; 31/8; TN14-3; 303/577. The Factory serves 4023 growers with its 1012.4 hectares of land under Tea.
The catchments comprise of mainly two agro-ecological Zones, namely Lower Highlands bordering the Aberdare forest on the upper side and upper medium lands bordering with marginal areas on the lower side and the following rivers through the catchments: Ndarugu River, Kariminu River and Githobokoni river.
The factory is 77 Km from Nairobi, 40 Km off Thika Highway towards Naivasha via Mang'u, Gakoe Highway. The Factory lies in an environment that has an altitude that ranges from 1720-2150 Meters above sea level, with an evenly distributed rainfall of 1260mm per annum and temperatures ranging from between 28oC to 14oC.

NDUTI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Nduti Tea Factory was a venture by the Njunu Tea Factory farmers, due to congestion experienced as a result of increased green leaf production. The project that was meant to raise a total of 500 million saw farmers raise 30% and the rest,(70%) borrowed from Barclays Bank and European Investment Bank. Operations on trial basis started in November 2002 with the first presentation in the Mombasa Auction on 28th January 2003.
Nduti is in Zone 37 in the Global position system (G.P.S) with UTM coordinates of 0264170, 9911094. The Factory is built on 11 acres located at the foot of the Aberdare ranges 2037M above sea level with rich well drained soils with a PH of between 5.2-6.0 and a well distributed rainfall. The factory is 82 Km from Nairobi city, while Thika the nearest major town is 38 Km from the Factory.
Nduti tea factory neighbors Makomboki to the south – west, Njunu to the south– east and Ikumbi to the north. The Factory is administratively found in Githumu sub location, Ruchu location, Kandara division Maragua district.
Nduti tea Factory serves 5448 small scale farmers with 9,034,823 bushes covering 1003 hectares. Clones of tea grown in the catchment are 31/8 which accounts 40%, others are SFS 140 (15%), S15/10(15%), 6/7(15%), 303(10%) and TN 14.
