The Factory was built in 1977 to serve 8349 growers, with a potential of 1536.19 hectares of land to produce the following clones of tea: SFS 150, 31/8, 6/8, 303/577.
Githambo is located in the northern ridges of Murang'a District, Kahuro Division, Murarandia Sub- location, Mukumu village. It has a good network of roads connecting Kangema and Kahuro Division. It borders Kigumo Division to the south and shares part of Kangema Division to the west. The Factory is 63 Km off Nairobi - Nyeri Highway at Kenol Junction and 35 Km from Murang'a Town. The catchment is well covered with Natural water resources as to the south is the Maragua River, while there are many streams traversing the catchment.
The environment in which the Factory is situated, has favorable climatic conditions, that is; relatively high altitude environment of between 1750 to 2280m above sea level (2080 meters above sea level at the factory), average rainfall of 1850mm (1800mm – 2500mm) per annum, temperatures minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 27°C, humidity 70-85% and an acidic red volcanic loamy Nitosols.
The factory is ISO 9001:2000 certified and in the process of acquiring ISO 22000 certification and beginning the process of sustainable agriculture certification.

KIRU TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Kiru Tea Factory is a KTDA-managed and is one of the nine (9) Factories in region two. It was commissioned on 23rd June 1993 with 16 buying centers and 2,330 registered growers. The Factory now serves 47 buying centres with over 7406 tea farmers.
It is situated at the windward slopes of Aberdare ranges at 0037’09” degrees south of equator and 36’’18’’4 degrees east of meridian at a height of 2032M above sea level.
The Factory is in Mathioya District and comprises the whole of Kiru location, parts of Gacharageini sub-location, Kamacharia and Kamune sub-locations of Kamacharia location. The factory is 7km off Murang’a –Nyeri highway. Mathioya, Thuruthuru and Rwarai are the rivers traversing the catchment.
The Factory is governed by six (6) Directors elected by the tea farmers.Their roles are policy making and governance, contracting managing agent, Authorizing procurements (goods /services), approving annual budgets/accounts.
The scope of the integrated management system is Provision of agricultural services, receipt of green leaf, manufacture, packaging and dispatch of black tea.
The food safety scope covers the Made Black Tea (MBT) processed through Field Services; Green Leaf reception, withering, CTC, Fermentation, Drying, Sorting, Packing and Dispatch at Kiru Tea Factory.

The company ensures the procedures and requirements stipulated by law customer ISO 22000:2005; ISO 9001:2008 among others are improved through management review meeting and other accredited literature and research work. The company is also committed to communicating with the customers, suppliers and other interested parties to the issues pertaining to food quality and safety and changes that may affect the same.

CHINGA TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Tea was first grown in 1953/54. The intense tea production facilitated the construction of Chinga Tea Factory in 1953 to serve 4,684 growers and commissioned to manufacture Stump/Clonal types of tea.
Its located 170 km north of Nairobi and 12 km south of Othaya. The area is situated at Latitude 0.5 degrees South and Longitude 36.9 degrees East. Approximately 70km south of the equator and fed by Gikira, Chinga, Rutune, Rwarai rivers. Its location next to the Aberdare ranges has seen it supplied by volcanic red loam soils and the tropial climatic condition has seen sustainable tea production in the region.

GATHUTHI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory is located on the north eastern slopes of Aberdare ranges only 14 KM from Nyeri town, and 168 KM from Nairobi the capital city of Kenya.
She lies 0 degrees 25 minutes south of the equator and 35 degrees 55 minutes to the East of the Greenwich. The area enjoys a cool wet climate with a bi- annual rainfall pattern with peaks in April to May, and October to December. Temperatures average between 18-24 degrees centigrade with an annual precipitation of 1200 mm.
The soils comprise largely of the volcanic Andohumic nitisols, which are well drained making the area favourable for tea growing. Clonal teas were introduce in this area in the 1960’s and comprise about 80% of the current bush establishment. The main clone is 6/8.
Since her inception in March 1978 she has continuously improved her processes and products, and has established a niche in the market that prefers pure black teas. The current processing capacity is 15 million kilograms of green leaf annually.There are 7158 tea growers owning between themselves 10785192 tea bushes on 1251hectares of land.
The industrious nature of the local populace and their ardent desire to excel has seen this factory perform well year after year. This nature is best demonstrated by the sons and daughters exploits in their undertakings like Dedan Wachiuri Kimathi relentless fighter for colonial emancipation and Wangari Maathai’s greenbelt movement on environmental conservation that won her a Nobel peace prize.

IRIAINI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The factory was commissioned on 5th January, 1981 with a shareholding capacity of 2115 farmers, only holding 9% of the then share value. The rest being under KTDA trustee and managing agent. The loan funding was a joint venture of the Kenya Government and African Development bank.
The Factory started with small scale holder farmers of an average of 0.5 acres totaling 510 hectares to a current hectare age of 1145 ha. The green leaf production has increased from an initial 5.1 million in 1981 to current 12.7 m in 2005, with farmers increasing from 2115 to 5747.
Iriaini Tea Factory Company limited is located at Iriaini location, Othaya Division of Nyeri District. It’s well served with two major streams: Thuti and Gikira. The factory catchment is well linked to two major towns Nyeri (Provincial Headquarter 25 km away by a tarmac road and138 km from Nairobi).
The area is covered by volcanic soil with Tea, Coffee and dairy farming being predominant. Food crops planted are maize, beans and vegetables. The factory site area is 39 ¼ acres.
Iriaini is a Fair-Trade Certified factory.

CHEBUT TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The Factory was commissioned by the late his Excellency the president Jomo Kenyatta in the year 1971 to serve the then emerging small scale tea farmers in the Nandi Region. The furthest leaf collection centre from Chebut is seventy eight kilometres away.
Chebut Tea Factory is situated at Kapsabet town along the Kapsabet- Chavakiali-Kisumu road 30 kilometres to the west of Eldoret International airport.
The Factory was managed by George Williamsons Tea Company on behalf of the then Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA); a government corporation which was in charge of the Management of the small scale tea sector in the republic. KTDA took over the running of the factory in 1981 and posted the first Factory Manager. The Factory manufactures Black CTC Tea.
The Factory has undergone major expansions over the past 38 years since it was commissioned with the current processing capacity being 20 million kilogram's of Green Leaf per year. Chebut currently serves over 14906 registered growers who own 50,965,710 planted bushes.
A Satellite Factory located at Kaptumo has been put up to relieve the Factory the current congestion. The new Unit will assist Factory improve its service delivery to the farmers. Its capacity is 10 million Kg's of Green Leaf. The Satellite Factory is now operational.
The Factory uses firewood fuel as source of fuel to fire its steam boilers. As a corporate social responsibility it sells at cost the fast growing eucalyptus grandis spp seedlings to the growers and other interested farmers.

MUDETE TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
The first tea bushes were grown in 1959 and has grown steadily over the years accommodating 13,514 growers. Mudete is situated in Western Province, Vihiga District, along Chavakali - Kapsabet road on latitude 0o 15’ (N) and longitude 34o 30”(E) , about15 Km from the Equator. It is surrounded by serene natural features: Nandi escarpment to the East of the factory, lake Victoria to the south and Mount Elgon to the North.
Mudete is approximately 350 Km from Nairobi and approximately 35 Km from Kisumu.
