KIONYO TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Kionyo tea factory started operations in August 2002; the factory was built to ease congestion at Imenti and Kinoro tea factories. The factory was commissioned in 2003 with annual installed processing capacity of 10,000,000 kg's of green leaf. Over the years, the factory has managed to receive and process green leaf which surpasses this capacity.
Plans are underway to expand the Processing capacity to cater for increased tea production.
There are a total of 1,943.73 hectares of land with over 16.7 Million tea plants and 202.04 Hectares of potential land. The soil type is red Volcanic.
The Factory serves 7,746 tea farmers currently who receive their initial payment of green leaf delivered to the Factory on monthly basis. The Factory has a total of 67 collection centers; the catchment is divided into six electoral areas.
The electoral areas are:
• Kionyo East
• Kionyo West
• Kithurine East
• Kithurine West
• Ngirine East
• Ngirine west
Each electoral area is represented by an elected director.
The Factory is situated at upper Kithangari Location, Abogeta division of Meru Central District on the eastern side of Mount Kenya 006oS, 037o 07’E. It is 236 Km from Nairobi, 30 Km from Meru town and 15 Km from Nkubu town.
On average the rainfall ranges between 1600-2000 MM. The altitude is 1610M above sea level.
The Factory is ISO 9001:2000 certified.

MAKOMBOKI TEA FACTORY COMPANY LIMITED
Makomboki Tea Factory was constructed between 1979-1981 and commissioned on 21st September, 1981. It is best known for the production of high quality CTC teas. The factory occupies an area of 19.8 acres and serves 5096 growers in 100 leaf collection centres. The area under tea is 1742 hectares with a total of 16,389,667 tea bushes.
Makomboki Tea Factory is situated in Kigumo Division, Muranga South District approximately 90Km from Nairobi and 40Km from Thika. It is 1oS of the equator and 37oE of meridian at a height of about 2160M above sea level. The environment has favourable climatic conditions of an average rainfall of 1400 – 1500mm annually in two main seasons March-May, October-November. The area has good terrain well served with Humic Nitosols soils and natural features surrounding it. They include: Ndakai-ini Dam, Aberdare Ranges on the northern side, Thika river on the western side and Chathanda river on the eastern side.
