To mark the World Water Day, the KTDA Foundation and Taylors of Harrogate yesterday provided 62 water tanks, worth Kshs. 5,377,141 million, which will be donated to schools and health facilities in tea growing regions to provide clean water for the communities.
Commenting on this noble donation, KTDA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lerionka Tiampati said that improving the livelihoods of small scale tea growers is a key objective for KTDA and through the KTDA Foundation, many initiatives have been launched to address health and environmental needs for the farmers.
The tanks will be donated to 47 primary and secondary schools and five health centres around the catchment areas and will benefit more than 40,000 pupils.
Mr. Tiampati said KTDA Foundation is collaborating with various stakeholders and key partners to achieve these objectives and he expressly thanked Taylors of Harrogate for supporting the water project which he noted will positively impact the lives of recipient communities.
Taylors of Harrogate is currently supporting the Foundation by sponsoring 30 students from tea growing areas to advance their studies in high school; establishing tree nurseries in Nyansiongo, Momul and Tegat Tea Factories; as well as partly sponsoring the construction of a dispensary near Kionyo Tea Factory.
In Kionyo, 12 schools are earmarked for the donation, 5 in Kapkoros, 17 in Imenti and 13 in Ngere. The water tanks have a capacity of between 8,000 liters and 10,000 liters.
