KTDA Foundation will hold the third edition of the Mentorship and Life Skills Workshop for the scholars of KTDA National Tea Scholarship Programme from 17th – 22nd August, 2015. The rigorous workshop contributes to their overall academic performance and personal growth. Critical components of the mentorship program are: 240 scholarship students, mentors who are KTDA Holdings and Foundation staff and partner institutions dedicated to guiding scholars to a successful high school experience.
The mentorship program supports scholars by following up on their academic progress and guidance on life skills. These efforts connect them to needed resources to help them grow personally and academically. The efforts include advice and motivation to achieve academic success during their high school years. Mentors support the students, motivate them towards successful secondary school completion and connect them to needed resources during the workshop.
A lot of changes occur during the secondary school years. Part of the time spent during the workshop will be to impart life skills techniques to the students, by passing on interpersonal skills, team playing skills, adaptation techniques which enhance flexibility among other skills that will build and grow the scholars’ capacity to develop wholesomely. In addition to this, the mentors give the students tips on how to manage their time wisely which helps the students to strike a balance between academics and extra curricular activities especially during exam time.
The students are taken through motivational talks by guest speakers and in addition workshops that cover life, leadership, study, hygiene, career & home skills. These workshops aim to address the current contemporary challenges facing teens and youth such as drug abuse and abortion. Their academic results are monitored by mentors who sit down with students. During these sessions, they agree on future expectations, by reviewing and making comparisons on the students’ performance from previous results onwards. This time is crucial for the students who are in form 3 as it also helps to prepare them for form 4 and KCSE.
