KTDA Holdings Board and 54 Tea Factory Companies managed by Kenya Tea Development Agency – Holdings Limited have sounded an alarm on political interference in the Kenyan tea sector, which is negatively impacting tea sales in international markets, leading to lower earnings for farmers.
Instances include the removal of reserve prices without consultation, politicians making pronouncements on factory separations, and government agencies holding impromptu meetings at farmers’ expense.
Speaking in Nairobi, the Directors urged all stakeholders to respect the democratic processes and the rule of law in the tea sector.![]()
