KTDA Wins Top ASK Awards at the Nairobi International Trade Fair

KTDA Chairman, Mr. Peter Kanyago, receives a trophy from President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Nairobi International Trade Fair, October 2015.

The Kenya Tea Development Agency Holdings (KTDA – H) won top Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) awards in the just concluded Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF).

KTDA-H won the ‘Agricultural/Earth Moving Equipment’ award after the adjudicators vetted KTDA and agreed that its business activities were in synch with the show’s theme – enhancing technology in agriculture and industry for food security and national growth.

KTDA participates in regional and international trade fairs to enhance its image, reinforce its local market position, distinguish itself from competitors, introduce new products, demonstrate support for the tea industry, attract attention from attendees who are unfamiliar with KTDA and demonstrate its processes, performance, and quality of tea, among other reasons.

Amid stiff competition in the Agricultural/Earth Moving Equipment class that had attracted more than 20 other entrants, KTDA-H was crowned in a ceremony that was held at the show ground Friday 2nd October, 2015 and presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta. KTDA Chairman, Mr. Peter Kanyago, received the trophy on behalf of the group.

The 2015 ASK theme resonates well with the government objective of attaining national food security. According to a United Nation report, food security is a situation in which all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. KTDA takes centre stage in the attainment of food security and bolsters the economy that largely relies on agriculture.

KTDA also boasted position-two wins in ‘Stand that Best Interprets Show Theme’ and ‘Best Display in Data Services and Telecommunication’. The Agency rested in position three in one class: ‘Best Local Stand in Strategies of International Trade and Exports’. Overall, KTDA applauded the good performance.

NITF became a Trade Fair in 2002 and offers opportunities for regional, continental and global exhibitors to display and demonstrate their goods and services to customers. It also offers show visitors an opportunity to meet people from different countries and backgrounds, hence creating a platform for interaction and exchanging of ideas and experiences.

NITF is organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (A.S.K), an organization that was founded in December 1901 under the name East African Agricultural and Horticultural Society. The central objective of ASK was to promote agricultural development based on European Settlement. ASK was the brainchild of Mr. John Ainsworth, who was the Sub-Commissioner for Ukambani Province then. Mr. Ainsworth believed that the organisation was to be an invaluable
