Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are emerging as major health problems in a Sub- Saharan Africa. The rate of NCDs is increasingly significantly. The KTDA Foundation in partnership with Government of Kenya personnel and Valentis Health, Majani Insurance and together with the support of other stakeholders from the public-private sectors facilitated a 3 day medical camp at Mungania Tea Factory.
The wellness camp aimed to raise awareness about the NCDs with special focus on cancer and to collect relevant data to inform better preparation and interventions for future.
The medical camp enabled the area residents get screened for prostrate, breast and cervical cancer as well as blood sugar, The medical camps helped to ensure that tea farmers are living a productive and healthy life. To improve the welfare of smallholder tea farmers in Kenya according to KTDA’s strategic focus.
The medical camp provided basic health care for the community, raised awareness about NCD’s in the area, bring primary health care services close to the people. The turn out was impressive and a, a total 775 farmers got screened. 20 cases of cancer were found during the screening.
