Factory History
’Gianchore’’ in the local language means a “war Zone” but this has been turned into a very productive area and a source of income to over fifteen thousand farmers and other stake-holders.. It originated from Sanganyi, Tombe and Kebirigo tea factories.Construction was started in 2001 with commissioning being done in March 2004.
Its designed capacity is 15 million kgs of Green Leaf per year from small scale tea growers.
Factory Location
Gianchore Tea Factory Co. Ltd is one of the KTDA managed factories. It is situated in Timi Sub-location, Keera Location, Nyamira south sub-county in Nyamira County. It is 23kms North West of Kisii Town. 4 kms off Nyamira- Kisii road via Nyankanda market and 6 kms off Kisii-Nyamira road via Nyabioto market.

The Factory stands at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level. Gianchore lies on 0.60South of Equator and 34.80 East longitudes.

Currently, the factory serves 15090 growers with an area of 1462 Hectares under tea production.
Type of tea produced
The factory majors in production of BLACK CTC teas with grades BP1, PF1, PD, D1, Fannings1 and DUST.
Climate & Natural Features
Gianchore Tea Factory is in Kisii Highlands with a warm and wet climatic condition, with an average annual rainfall ranging from1500mm to2500mm. The rain pattern comes in two seasons with long rains received between March and June while short rains come between October and December. The temperature ranges 18-23 degree Celsius. The factory is in the west of the Great Rift Valley and enjoys deep loamy volcanic type of soil which is quite suitable for growing tea and even other crops.

The factory is RA (Rain Forest Alliance), ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 22000:2018 (Food Safety Management System) certified.
Special projects & Corporate Social Investment
The factory has invested in sustainable and renewable energy in Nyakwara hydro power located in Kisii County. The factory also has ventured into aforestation in Kimindet and Moyoi farms to ensure sustainability in the environment and provide firewood need for the factory. The factory also has a nursery which provides certified seedlings to the community and the growers.
