The first consignment of the 99,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser was today flagged off at the Port of Mombasa by KTDA Holdings National Chairman Enos Njeru, alongside PS for Agriculture Kipronoh Rono. The consignment, equivalent to approximately 2 million 50kg bags, is destined to support smallholder tea farmers across the country with timely access to this critical farm input. The flag-off was witnessed by Tea Board of Kenya Executive Officer Willy Mutai, KTDA Head of Special Projects Kanja Thuku, senior management and other stakeholders. The timing is critical, as this is a good window for farmers to apply fertiliser. Timely application replenishes essential soil nutrients, promotes healthy tea bush growth and supports vigorous leaf production—key to sustaining yield, quality and farmer returns. For KTDA Holdings, ensuring farmers have the inputs they need, when they need them, is Farmer First in action. #FarmerFirst

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss ways of strengthening factory operations, improving tea quality and productivity, and ensuring farmers continue to derive greater value from their tea. KTDA Chairman Enos Njeru was the Chief Guest at the graduation of more than 100 farmers from Kapkatet Tea Factory who successfully completed a one-year Farmer Field School programme. The programme equips farmers with practical skills in best agronomic practices for tea farming, financial management and the establishment of alternative income-generating ventures—helping them improve productivity, manage their finances and build more diversified and resilient sources of income. The graduation was also graced by Tea Research Institute Director Lilian Kerio,the factory board led by chairman Dr. Wesley Koech, Zone 8 board member Philip Langat and other senior representatives from Tea Board of Kenya and KTDA.
