Ndarugu Tea Factory in Kiambu County on Friday 12th May, 2023 won the Best New Entrant Award at the 19th Energy Management Awards (EMA) held in Nairobi. The EMA Awards are organised by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers and celebrate entities that have achieved a significant reduction in their energy consumption through implementation of energy efficient measures and technologies. KTDA managed factories have instituted a number measures to reduce the cost of energy, including conducting regular energy audits, use of briquettes made from waste material, installation of modern energy efficient processing machinery and utilising power from hydropower plants built and managed by the factories.
