Factory History:
- The factory was established in 2002 and commissioned in 2003 to serve small scale tea farmers with a capacity of 10million kilograms of green leaf due to increase in crop levels, the factory has to expand its current capacity of 25 million kg of green leaf annually.
- The factory is managed by Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited.
Number of Growers in the Area:
- Currently, the factory serves 11,039 growers with a potential area of 2,533 Hectares of land.
- The factory is governed by six (6) Directors elected by the tea farmers. Their roles are policy making and governance, contracting managing agent, Authorizing procurements (goods/services), and approving annual budgets/accounts.

- The factory is located in Upper Kithangari Location, Abogeta West Division,
Imenti South District, Meru County about 236kms from Nairobi city 30kms
From Meru town and 15kms from Nkubu town.
Altitude:
- The factory is on relatively high altitude of 1970M above sea level, approximately 006º south of Equator along 37º East Longitude.

- Black CTC
Climate & Natural Features:
- Rainfall: 1600-2000mm mm per annum. Kionyo is situated just next to the famous Mt. Kenya forest.

- Rainforest Alliance.
- ISO 9001:2015 ;
The scope of the integrated management system is provision of agricultural services, receipt of green leaf, manufacture, packaging and dispatch of black tea.
- ISO 22000:2018 ;
The Food safety scope covers the Made Black Tea processed through Green leaf reception, withering, CTC, Fermentation, Drying, Sorting, Packing and Dispatch at Kionyo Tea Factory.
Special Projects
- Micro-Hydro Electricity Generation Project: Iraru hydroelectric power partnering with other factories. It is in the process.
- Automation of withering and sorting.
Corporate Social Investment:
- Our company is active in corporate social responsibilities and has endeavored to support the less privileged in the society. In collaboration with KTDA Foundation our company has and will continued to sponsor bright but needy students from our catchment.
- Conservation of environment by company
Our company has continued to adhere with environmental conservation measures which includes but not limited to;
- Proper waste management.
- Training farmers on good agricultural practices.
